Ministry of Health launches Health Products and Technologies Local Manufacturing Strategy 2026–2030

Ministry of Health on June 23, 2026 launched the Kenya Health Products and Technologies (HPTs) Local Manufacturing Strategy 2026–2030 in Nairobi that seeks to strengthen health security, reduce dependence on imports, expand domestic production of medical products, create jobs, and improve access to essential health commodities.

The strategy is structured around regulatory and policy reforms, expansion and diversification of local manufacturing capacity, and demand generation through market assurance and coordinated procurement. It emphasizes stronger links between research institutions, academia, industry, and government to drive innovation and technology transfer, alongside efforts to improve healthcare financing and access.

Key stakeholders present included UNICEF, PATH, AMREF Health Africa, and the Federation of Kenya Pharmaceutical Manufacturers.
