The National Cancer Institute of Kenya (NCI-K) on June 22, 2026 announced the establishment of the National Cancer Institute of Kenya Institutional Scientific and Ethical Review Committee (ISERC), a new body mandated to provide independent scientific and ethical oversight of cancer research in Kenya. The committee will review cancer-related research protocols to ensure compliance with scientific, ethical and regulatory standards while safeguarding participant safety and human dignity.
Committee member completed an ethics training programme facilitated by the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI) from June 15–19, 2026, covering research ethics, informed consent, protection of vulnerable populations, quality assurance, community engagement, research integrity and post-approval monitoring.nd control policies.
