SMEP Microfinance Bank PLC has appointed Bernard Mutinda Kivava as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective May 18, 2026, subject to approval by the Central Bank of Kenya. The appointment was formally made public on June 22, 2026 through a press release.
Kivava brings more than 20 years of experience in the microfinance sector, having served as CEO of Juhudi Kilimo from 2015 to 2025, where he led the institution’s turnaround from losses to profitability and expanded its branch network, customer base and loan portfolio. He previously as served as CEO OF Letshego Rwanda Limited, overseeing growth in lending, profitability and its transition into a deposit-taking microfinance institution.
