Government Statement on Floods Situation in Kenya, Search and Rescue Operations.
The National Police Service (NPS) wishes to apprise the public of the search and rescue operations following the torrential rains and subsequent devastating flooding affecting various parts of the country.
Officers from the National Police Service, working in a multi-agency framework with relevant partners, remain actively deployed on the ground and ready to respond to any emergencies or distress situations.
To date, the number of fatalities has unfortunately increased to 62, including 46 men, eight women, and eight children. Nairobi has the highest number of victims, with 33 fatalities. The Eastern region follows with 17 fatalities, while the Rift Valley region has recorded seven.
Elsewhere, Nyanza and the Coast regions have each recorded two fatalities, and the Central region has reported one.
The National Police Service offers its deepest condolences to all the families who have lost loved ones during this tragic time.
Additionally, more than two thousand families have been displaced from their homes. Infrastructure and property have also been damaged in various parts of the country.
Several regions continue to experience heavy rainfall, and we urge members of the public to exercise extreme caution and to continue following updates and safety advisories issued by the Kenya Meteorological Department and other relevant government agencies.
