Prof Elijah Omwenga Appointed As Vice Chancellor Of The Open University Of Kenya. He has been serving as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of OUK for over one and half years.

On behalf of Open University of Kenya Council, I wish to notify all University staff and students that, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 35 (1) (v) and Section 39 (1) (a) of the Universities Act 2012, Prof. Elijah I. Omwenga has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the Open University of Kenya.
The appointment of Prof. Elijah I. Omwenga as Vice-Chancellor of the Open University of Kenya (OUK), effective 17th April 2025, marks a significant milestone in the institution's development. Prof. Omwenga, who has served as Acting Vice-Chancellor of OUK for over one and half years, brings extensive experience in academia and leadership. His proven ability to stabilize and lead the Open University of Kenya through its formative stages, combined with his expertise in computer science and distinguished tenure as Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs at the University of Kabianga, positions him well in advancing the university's virtual education mandate and contributing to national development goals. Prof. Omwenga's leadership shall drive OUK's growth, ensure sustained stability, and reinforce its commitment to achieving strategic objectives.
