KEWOPA Statement on Rising Cases Of Femicide in Kenya
Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) Statement On Rising Cases of Femicide In Kenya.

The Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) is deeply concerned by the rising cases of femicide across the country. One more woman or girl lost to gender-based violence is one too many. With cases increasing daily, urgent and coordinated action is needed.
We are saddened by the recent killing of Susan Nabwire in Pipeline, allegedly by her husband. In another tragic case in Kiserian, Kajiado County, businesswoman Naomi Wambui was found dead in her home, having suffered head trauma and burns. Investigations are ongoing, and we expect regular updates. These brutal acts are part of a disturbing trend that is instilling fear in families and communities. Such violence is unacceptable and must not be normalized.
We call on the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, the National Police Service, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Judiciary, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), and the State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action to strengthen protection mechanisms for women and girls, enforce laws against perpetrators, and ensure swift justice.
We urge civil society, religious leaders, community organizations, and all Kenyans to unite in condemning gender-based violence. The fight against femicide must continue until every woman and girl is safe at home, in school, at work, and in public spaces.
We also take note of the ongoing work of the Technical Working Group (TWG) on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide. We call upon the TWG to conclude its work and urgently fast-track the dissemination of its findings, as these will provide a clear pathway for concrete action and policy response.
KEWOPA is committed to pick up key policy recommendations that may arise from the report and remains committed to pushing for laws, policies, and public awareness that protect women's rights and dignity. Together, we can end femicide and build a safer, more just society for all.
