Turkana County Govt Statement on Cholera Outbreak in Turkana West

The County Government hereby declares a cholera outbreak in Turkana West, specifically within the Kalobeyei settlement. This follows confirmation of multiple cases with a history of recent travel to South Sudan. Laboratory analysis indicates the presence of Vibrio cholerae 01, Serotype Ogawa.

The Department of Health, together with partners, has heightened surveillance at the border reception center. Emergency response measures are being implemented to contain the spread and provide treatment.

The public is strongly advised to maintain high standards of personal and environmental hygiene and report any suspected cases to the nearest health facility immediately.
