Kijabe Hospital Statement on Stopping to Offer Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery Course in Kijabe College
Kijabe Hospital Statement on Stopping to Offer Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery Course in Kijabe College of Health Sciences (KCHS)

The plastic surgery team in Kijabe Hospital initiated the development of a draft curriculum to explore the feasibility of a specialized training program aimed at equipping clinical officers with enhanced skills to support plastic surgeons in Kenya. The goal was to expand access to surgical care, especially in underserved areas.
Following preliminary consultations held in Kenya in March 2025, it became clear that no appropriate regulatory framework currently exists to support such a program. In addition, the draft curriculum was vulnerable to misinterpretation and potential misuse, which could compromise patient safety and cause confusion within the healthcare system.
In light of these concerns, Kijabe College of Health Sciences (KCHS) made a deliberate decision NOT to move forward with the curriculum. The version currently circulating online was an internal draft and does not represent KCHS's current or future academic direction.
KCHS and Kijabe Hospital reaffirm our commitment to maintain the highest standards of medical education while collaborating closely with regulatory bodies to uphold patient safety and professional integrity.
We thank our partners and the public for continued trust in our training and education programs, which aim to equip healthcare workers across Kenya.
