Fred Matiangi Statement On Being Involved In Human Rights Violation
Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiangi Statement on being involved in Human Rights Violation following airing of Butcher of Nakuru Documentary by NTV.
The TEAM MATIANG'I SECRETARIAT has taken note of the airing of a documentary titled 'Murder Tapes, Butchers of Nakuru' which was aired on May 15, 2025 by NTV where our leader Dr Fred Matiang'i was adversely mentioned.
Dr Matiangi's statement as aired in the documentary was taken out of context as he is a great believer of human rights and the rule of law.
We would wish to state that we empathize with the affected families and that we are aware that investigations into the said incident by the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) have already commenced. It is only fair that we all wait for the outcome.
For avoidance of doubt, Dr Matiangi's record as a civil servant is clear for everyone to see. He oversaw the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting, restored sanity on our roads, reformed the immigration department, led a crackdown on illegal gambling, oversaw wide ranging reforms in the education sector among others.
In the security sector he oversaw National Police Service reforms, including housing, equipment upgrades and command restructuring. This is in addition to strengthening the National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) to improve service delivery at grassroots levels among other great achievements.
We deeply appreciate the vital watchdog role the media plays in society - holding power to account, exposing wrongdoing and amplifying voices that might otherwise go unheard. However, as we approach an election, the media must be doubly vigilant not to become a willing mouthpiece for politically driven propaganda. Truth must never be sacrificed on the altar of sensationalism or partisan gain. The credibility of journalism - and the stability of democracy - depends on it.
