IEK Statement on Women Engineer's Award Nomination

The Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK), through its Women Engineers Committee, is hosting the 1st Women Engineers Convention from May 29-30, 2025, at Sawela Lodges, Naivasha County.

The convention will also honor women engineers' achievements with twelve prestigious awards. These awards recognize contributions across various fields and stages of a career, showcasing the impact of women in the engineering profession. The goal is to make the engineering field more appealing to women, create role models, and encourage greater female participation in engineering.

Award Categories:

  • Advocating for Women in Engineering Award: Recognizes an individual who demonstrates professional excellence in engineering while advocating for women in the field and supporting the Women Engineers Committee’s objectives.
  • Distinguished Woman in Academia Award: Honors a full-time or part-time engineering educator with over ten years of contribution to the profession. Nominees should be IEK Corporate or Fellow members, with evidence such as research papers or academic achievements.
  • Female Mentor of the Year Award: Acknowledges an individual who has actively mentored women in engineering, with a focus on the impact and number of individuals mentored.
  • Consultant/Fellow Women Engineers Transition Award: Recognizes women engineers who have transitioned into consultancy/fellow or started their own firms.
  • Best Woman Contractor/Entrepreneur Award: Celebrates women engineers who have made significant contributions as contractors in the construction industry, empowering other women and promoting excellence.
  • Young Women Engineers Award: Honors women engineers aged 18-35 who have made notable technical and professional contributions, with a focus on their impact on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Innovation Award: Recognizes women engineers who have demonstrated innovation and good practices, showcasing their tangible engineering innovations and their impact.
  • Emerging Leader Award: Awarded to women under 40 who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and accomplishments in the engineering or technology sector, with at least ten years of experience.
  • Outstanding Women in Engineering Organizations in Universities Award: Recognizes university engineering organizations led by women students that actively promote STEM and women engineers.
  • Women Engineering Technician/Technologist Award: Honors women in technical support roles who have shown exceptional commitment to engineering and technology.
  • Best Women-Led Initiative by an Organization Award: Celebrates organizations that have led initiatives promoting women in engineering.
  • Distinguished Woman Engineer of the Year Award: Recognizes an exceptional female engineer who has made significant contributions to the engineering profession.

These awards aim to celebrate and elevate women in engineering, inspiring future generations and advancing the industry. Applications must be received by 11.00pm on 16th May, 2025.
